Pangolins, the world’s only truly scaly mammals, have been on the planet for more than 40 million years and are covered in hard scales that protect them from most predators. They feed on ants and are pioneers in the forest. However, due to long-term illegal hunting, habitat destruction and other factors, pangolins are facing a serious crisis of survival. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), there are currently about eight species of pangolins worldwide, more than half of which are classified as endangered or vulnerable. Therefore, protecting pangolins has become a top priority.

As a well-known robot company named after “pangolin”, we feel that we have the responsibility and mission. Through the Pangolin Conservation Public Welfare Project, we will donate funds to domestic and foreign public welfare organizations to support pangolin conservation work. The funds will be used to strengthen monitoring and research, raise public awareness, and combat illegal trade to ensure that pangolins can be effectively protected.

At the same time, we also hope to introduce popular science knowledge about pangolins to consumers through this public welfare activity. We will publish relevant publicity materials on the company website, social media platforms and other channels to call on everyone to pay attention to and participate in pangolin protection.

In addition, Suzhou Pangolin Robot Corp.,Ltd. will donate 1% of the company’s profits to the protection of pangolin public welfare projects, although this amount may be insignificant, but we hope that through this move to arouse everyone’s attention to pangolin protection. Only if everyone understands and values the rarity of pangolins can they better protect their living environment.

Part 01  Meet the “Forest Defender Pangolin”

640

There are eight species of pangolins in the world, four in Asia and four in Africa. All eight species of pangolin are endangered. The pangolin, common in the south 60 years ago, has disappeared. The Chinese pangolin, the most abundant in China, had 900,000 in the 1960s and now its population has declined by more than 97 percent. A harmless, timid, well-defended animal with no natural predators, hunted to extinction by humans.

Pangolins cannot be raised in captivity and have low fertility. Once coveted by humans, their numbers drop dramatically. Scales make medicine, flesh makes soup, pangolins are treasure. After hunting pangolins in Asia, curiosity hunters went to Africa to catch them. Pangolins are becoming fewer and more valuable. Rare things are valuable, and pangolins become a good dish to entertain the rich and powerful. Pangolins are a popular game of choice for curious eaters. In the eyes of ordinary people, pangolins are animals that have nothing to do with themselves and have never seen them before and will never see them again.

Until June 5, 2020, in order to further strengthen the protection of pangolins, China has upgraded all species of pangolins from the national second class protected wild animals to the first class. Pangolins have come to the fore from obscurity behind the scenes and received public attention. When people started to care about pangolins, they realized how little we knew about them. If we don’t start protecting pangolins now, our future generations may only see this rare animal in textbooks!

Protecting animals, in fact, is helpless. Only when animals don’t need human protection will they truly be safe. Let’s hope the pangolins wait until that day.

Part 02  The original intention of protecting the pangolin

0044

Yugang Song, the founder of Suzhou Pangolin Robot, said: Our company name is named after “pangolin”, whenever we see the video or news of this rare animal being wantonly killed and abused, the heart is quite painful, always thinking what can we do? The idea of “protecting pangolin public welfare project” was born, perhaps this is also a wonderful fate. We believe that through continued efforts and cooperation, we can make a positive contribution to the conservation of pangolins.

We hope that consumers will actively participate in the action to protect pangolins. If you want to do your part, we can take the following steps:

Raise awareness of pangolins: It is important to understand their habits, ecology and the threats they face. By learning and publicizing relevant knowledge, we can increase our awareness and protection of pangolins.

Refusing to buy and use pangolin products: Not buying and using any pangolin-related products is one of the important measures to prevent illegal trade. We should resolutely resist pangolin products from illegal sources, including medicine and crafts.

Support legitimate conservation organizations: It is important to choose legitimate public interest organizations that are focused on protecting pangolins. These organizations promote pangolin protection through scientific research, education and publicity, law enforcement and other means, and we can donate money to them or participate in volunteer activities to provide support.

Promote an environmentally friendly lifestyle: Starting from the individual, we can take a series of environmental measures to reduce the negative impact on the environment. Actions such as saving energy, reducing plastic use, and promoting sustainable consumption can create better conditions for protecting pangolins.

Suzhou Pangolin Robot Corp.,Ltd. will continue to be committed to the combination of scientific and technological innovation and environmental protection, through the “protection of pangolin public welfare project” to provide help and support for this rare species on the brink of extinction. Finally, we call on consumers to take action together to protect the unique biodiversity of the earth, so that pangolins continue to shine in our lives!
